Captive Breeding
As an aquarist, you want the finest specimens for your tank. You're looking to create that perfect slice of the reef filled with color, vibrancy and health. But, you choose to do it in a responsible fashion. Captive bred animals are a great choice when you are seeking a healthier marine animal already acclimated to the aquarium environment. Captive bred animals are better suited to captivity because they have been bred specifically for that purpose.
Take for instance the seahorse. These magical creatures have been the staple of retailers for years, even though a wild caught seahorse will almost never eat anything but live food. Consequently, almost all wild caught seahorses starve to death in the aquarist's tanks. The seahorse has been hunted to such an extent that it has been put on the list of endangered species.

Captive breeding, however, is changing the future of the seahorse in marine aquariums. Gifted companies both domestic and abroad have perfected the captive breeding of seahorses. These animals are heartier, healthier and feed on frozen foods. They become the centerpiece of your aquarium. They will breed in your tanks. They are spectacular.
Success stories like this are coming every day. And while captive breeding is not the complete answer to the problem, it is certainly a step towards the solution. Oceans' Garden supports captive breeding efforts and sells a broad selection of species...including several species of captive bred seahorses.
